For educators and coaches, the experts from the Institute of Sport - National Research Institute in Warsaw will conduct a training and methodological workshop "The role of educators and coaches working for the development of sports for people with disabilities".

The workshop will be held on 25 May 2023. It is addressed to sports sector educators and experienced coaches who want to share their knowledge and experience with other coaches of Paralympic sports.

A key element in designing a development path for athletic coaches is access to an experienced group of educators whose knowledge and experience contribute to excellence in the art of coaching others. It can be said that athlete development is only possible when coaches working with athletes have the necessary competencies and abilities, understand athlete-focused coaching principles and implement continuous learning.

In an effort to professionalize the coaching sector, there has been a significant increase in the attention paid to the education and training of coaches. The International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE 2014) advocates a blended approach to learning, mixing formal and informal learning opportunities, integrating significant work-based opportunities and challenging coaches “to enhance their abilities through a range of methodologies from directed, instruction-based approaches to more facilitative collaborative means of learning, which includes interaction with other coaches” (ICCE, 2012, p.37). The relatively new role of coach educator (coach developer) is an integral part of this learning process.

The coach developer is an all-embracing term. It is presented as a good practice guide to help countries, sports organizations, international federations, and educational institutions establish effective systems to identify, train, support, and nurture those responsible for the education and development of sports coaches at all levels and in all contexts. Significant changes are being made in the way coach education is designed, delivered, evaluated, and quality assured. Perhaps the biggest change is in the way coach education programs are delivered, emphasizing facilitation that puts the coach at the center of the learning process. Therefore, the increasing emphasis on the role of the coach educator is now critical to ensuring the quality of coach education and, consequently, coaching practice.

Coach education staff (coach developers) collectively have various key responsibilities that include qualification or accreditation development, curriculum design, tutoring or facilitation, assessment, mentoring, and internal quality assurance.

The overall goal of the workshop at the conference is to promote the dissemination of effective adult education methods to specifically support teaching standards for facilitation and building education programs using workshop methods, with participating coaches playing a central role.

The workshop will equip educators with the competencies needed in the sports sector to promote and develop the national qualification system.

Furthermore, in addition to speeches by researchers from various fields of science, a second demonstration, training, and research workshop on the use of motor activation in virtual reality will be held, with the participation of invited Para athletes included in the central sports training program: Preliminary discussion of the results and summary of the effects of VR on changes in physiological parameters.

This workshop will be held on 27 May 2023 within the framework of the Special Session: Innovative training methods and measures in sports for people with disabilities.

The conference participation fee is 500 PLN, and, in the case of students and doctoral school students, it is 250 PLN (the fee includes certified participation in the Conference, conference materials, coffee breaks, and a gala dinner).

The conference participation fee must be paid by 18 May 2023
